B.C.'s Ministry of Health administrative data is one of the best health data collections in the world. It covers the entire B.C. population of approximately 4.5 million people and consists of fee-for-service physician billings, pharmaceutical, and mental health and addictions data, to name only a few. Our data is also readily linkable to other non-health datasets for research.
The Information Management and Knowledge Services branch of the Ministry of Health grants access to ministry data to academic researchers on a case-by-case basis.
The Research Data Access Framework presents principles and responsibilities in the data access request process.
Researchers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with all documentation and details of the process on the Population Data BC website before submitting applications for data.
