Provincial Laboratory Information Solution (PLIS)

PLIS, the Provincial Laboratory Information Solution, will provide lab tests online for your caregiver where and when patients need them. It will also

  • Enable faster diagnosis of patients via immediate access to recent and historical test results
  • Reduce lab tests duplication, resulting in saved resources and reduced patient inconvenience
  • Provide coordinated, timely, secure and consistent delivery of lab results to the ordering physician
  • Eventually, automate test ordering to help ensure efficiency and accuracy.

Over time, PLIS will integrate with the other eHealth projects. The Ministry of Health Services is working with Sun Microsystems of BC, Inc. to design, build and implement PLIS.

Mary and her physician have a telehealth consultation with a Vancouver specialist. The specialist views her lab tests on line and prescribes for her pharmacist in Terrace online. Mary’s GP reviews her recent diagnostic scans on her EMR from Mary’s electronic health record and updates her course of treatment.
