General Information about Licensing in British Columbia
Getting an emergency medical assistant licence in British Columbia is a three-step process:
- Complete your training approved by the board.
- Pass the examinations approved by the board.
- Apply for your licence.
Maximum Length of Time to Complete your Examinations
- You have 12 months from the date your certificate or transcript was issued to successfully pass all your EMA Licensing Board’s examinations and requirements in order to get your licence.
Past and Current Licence Status
- You must report any current licences or previous licences you have held in any jurisdiction.
- You need to provide the EMA Licensing Branch the name and contact information of the organization that issued the licence. The branch will enquire about your status.
Good Standing
- You must be in good standing in all jurisdictions where you have held a licence.
- You cannot have a licence revoked or suspended from a previous jurisdiction.
- The EMA Licensing Board will consider, on a case-by-case basis, situations where an applicant is not in good standing and determine if a licence should be issued.
Prior Knowledge
- The EMA Licensing Board will review all applications from out-of-province applicants who have not successfully completed B.C.’s examinations before April 1, 2009.
- If the board determines there is a significant risk to public safety, the board may refuse to issue a licence to the applicant or require that the applicant complete remedial examinations.
