Getting an Endorsement
EMR Schedule 2
The insertion and maintenance of nasopharyngeal airway is the most common endorsement sought by EMRs who currently hold a licence.
An EMR licence covers the entire scope of practice defined in the EMA Regulation except for the “f” endorsement in Schedule 2. The “f” endorsement permits you to insert and maintain the nasopharyngeal airway.
To get an "f" endorsement for nasopharyngeal airway, follow these steps:
- Successfully complete a gap training module approved by the EMA Licensing Board.
- Submit your training certificate with your full name and licence number clearly indicated to getalicense@gov.bc.ca or by fax to 250 952-1222.
For information about other EMR endorsements, contact the branch at getalicense@gov.bc.ca.
IV Endorsement (PCP only)
The EMA Licensing Board has approved stand-alone IV therapy courses for PCPs who have not completed their initial requirement for IV endorsement or for those who were trained outside British Columbia.
To get an IV endorsement, follow these steps:
- Submit electronically a Request for Evaluation form.
- Send proof of successful completion of training (certificate or transcript).
- Complete the required examinations.
- Submit an IV log with 25 successful in-hospital starts. Starts must be in accordance with the board’s IV start policy.
Important Things to Know
- You have twelve months from the time you have finished your IV training course to complete the examination and submit your IV log.
- IV starts can be done any time after you have successfully completed an approved training program and do not have to be complete before you take your exam.
Intubation Endorsement (PCP only)
There are no approved endorsement training programs for intubation.
The EMA Licensing Branch will review proof of competency as requested on a case-by-case basis. This might include, for example, an EMA who is licensed at a higher level than PCP but wishes to hold a PCP licence.
ACP Endorsements
There are no approved endorsement training programs for ACPs.
The EMA Licensing Branch will review proof of competency as requested on a case-by-case basis.
