Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing BoardApplying for Licensure in British Columbia – Complete a Paramedic Training program within B.C.BOOKING YOUR EVALUATIONS:EMA Licensing exams are broken into practical and written components and must be booked separately using the EMA Licensing Branch (EMALB) online booking forms (userid and password are required, please contact the EMA Licensing Branch office for access information). EMA Licensing Evaluation Booking intranet pages are located here: http://admin.moh.hnet.bc.ca/emaintra/index.html Practical Evaluations: You must submit the Practical Evaluation Booking form. You can choose any location in B.C. and any exam session listed on the Practical Examination Schedule that suits you; you are not restricted to the region you live in. A list of all exam dates for the next year are listed on the Practical Examination Schedule. When you submit your choices on the booking form, you are choosing the exam session and the Centre that suits you. Make sure you only request exam sessions prior to the Registration Deadlines associated with each. You will be sent an email confirmation of your registration in the exam session shortly after your form is submitted. You will be scheduled for one day within the exam session approximately 2 weeks prior to the session start. If there are specific dates within the exam session you prefer, you may note this in the comments section of the booking form. You may also use the comments section to request to be placed on the waiting list for an exam session that the registration deadline has already passed. Confirmation will be sent via email so please record your email address carefully. Written Evaluations: Written exams can be proctored in your community. Approved proctors in B.C. are outlined in Appendix K of the Applicant Guide to EMA Licensing Examinations. You should contact one of these approved proctors, make arrangements for a date and time for your written exam to take place, then advise this office by submitting the Written Evaluation Booking Form found on the Evaluation Booking pages of the EMA Licensing website. The package will be mailed directly to the proctor from this office. You must provide enough notice to allow time for the exam package to arrive to the proctor in the mail. You will receive email confirmation the day the package is mailed. Jurisprudence exam: The jurisprudence exam is an open book exam that is available online. The exam covers components of the EMA Regulation, EMA Licensing Policy, the Emergency and Health Services Act, the Good Samaritan Act, and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. There are 25 questions on the exam and 70% is required to pass. The jurisprudence exam must be completed at one sitting and within the designated time frame (1 hour). There are unlimited tries to pass the exam, but the fee is applied to each attempt. The material you should review is available on the EMALB website and a study guide has been prepared. It is available here: http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/ema/pdf/Jurisprudence_Preparatory_Manual.pdf . B.C. material begins on page 14. The jurisprudence exam is a one time requirement. Applicants can book it using the Written Evaluation Booking Form. Once the EMALB office provides a userid and password to access the online exam, you will have 14 days to complete it. If it is not completed within the 14 days, your userid will expire and you must apply for another one (submit another Written Evaluation Booking Form). A colour photo of yourself is required prior to license issue, but does not have to be received prior to booking your exam dates. Digital photos can be emailed to emalb@victoria1.gov.bc.ca with your full name in the subject line. Passport photos and prints are also accepted and should be mailed to the address below.
