Out of Province Application ProcessStep 1 - Check the Agreement in Internal Trade Tool AIT Tool for a comparison of B.C. licence levels and the licence levels of other provinces in Canada. The AIT Tool compares the B.C. licence levels to the licence levels of other jurisdictions in Canada. The tool identifies any competency gaps that the applicant must address over time as specified by the Regulator. Step 2 - Complete all forms The Application for Registration form must be completed by the applicant and witnessed by a licensed notary public or commissioner for taking affidavits. The original form must be submitted to the Branch office. Please Note – Applicants with an out of province application on file with EMA Licensing who wish to apply through the Trade and Investment Labour Mobility Act (TILMA) or AIT will be subject to the Prior Knowledge Policy. The Prior Knowledge Policy addresses previous unsuccessful attempts to meet provincial standards known to the Regulator through processes in place prior to April 1, 2009.
The Verification of Paramedic Registration form must be forwarded to the Regulator in the province of prior registration, after the applicant has completed Part A of the form. The Regulator must forward the form directly to the EMA Licensing Branch office after completing Part B of the form. A Verification of Paramedic Registration form is required for every province or territory in which the applicant has ever been registered. All Applicants are required to report any other licences held (or previously held) in any jurisdiction. Applicants will provide the authority and contact information to the Board and or EMAL Branch to request specifics respecting the Applicant’s status. All Applicants are required to be in good standing in all jurisdictions in which a licence is held. And has not had a licence revoked or suspended from a previous jurisdiction ) If an Applicant is not in good standing, then the circumstances of that would be considered on a case by case basis, and, if relevant in the practice of a paramedic, can be the basis to deny licensure.
The Application for Licence Form must be completed by the applicant and submitted to the Branch Office. In addition, the applicant must submit a recent (1 year old or less) photograph to the Branch Office. Digital photos can be emailed to emalb@victoria1.gov.bc.ca. Regular prints can be mailed to the Branch office. Step 3 - Submit fees to the EMA Licensing Branch office: EMA Licensing Branch Office The Licence Fee Schedule contains information regarding the fees for application for licence and the written exam. The licence fee is $50 and the written exam (Jurisprudence Exam) fee is $50. All documents and fees must be received prior to being eligible for access to the Jurisprudence Exam and subsequent licensure. Step 4 - Complete the Jurisprudence Exam. The Jurisprudence Exam is offered online. Once all required forms, documents and fees have been received, the Branch office will send the applicant information on how to access this exam. Once the Branch office receives confirmation of the successful completion of the Jurisprudence Exam the applicant will be eligible for licensure. Step 5 - Complete any identified gap training within the time required and submit confirmation to the Branch office.
