Policy Statements – All Licensees
Past and Current License Status
- All Applicants must report any other licenses held (or previously held) in any jurisdiction. Applicants will provide the authority and contact information to the EMA Licensing Board (Board) and or EMA Licensing Branch to request specifics respecting the applicant's status.
Good Standing
- Applicants are required to be in good standing in all jurisdictions in which a license is held. Applicants cannot have a license revoked or suspended from a previous jurisdiction. If an applicant is not in good standing, then the circumstances of that would be considered on a case by case basis, and, if relevant in the practice of a paramedic, can be the basis to deny licensure.
English Language
- Applicants are required to be proficient in English. All Paramedic exams in B.C. will be in conducted English.
- Where English is not the applicant's mother tongue, a certificate of successful completion of an "English as a Second Language" program of study is required.
Prior Knowledge
- Applicants with an out of province application on file with the Board who have had previous unsuccessful attempts to meet B.C. provincial standards through examination/evaluation processes in place prior to April 1, 2009 will be subject to a review by the Board
- In cases where the Board determines there is significant risk to public safety, the applicant may be refused licensure or may be required to complete Board-approved remedial requirements. Each application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
