Special Practical Examination Session Requests

Under the board’s rural and remote special exams policy, the EMA Licensing Branch will schedule special examinations outside its regular exam schedule for EMA candidates in remote locations, thus making the practical examinations more accessible.

The registrar will review and pre-approve each special examination session request. The request will be granted as long as it does not impact the annual examination session schedule and resources are available.

To Request a Special Examination Session

  • Complete and electronically submit the Request for Special Examination Session form at least eight weeks before the special examination session request date.
  • The director of regulatory services and the clinical advisors will review your request and prepare a recommendation for registrar approval.
  • The EMA Licensing Branch will send you its decision by email.
If... then...
your request for a special examination session is approved  the EMA Licensing Branch will send you an email outlining required documentation.
examination resources cannot be coordinated for the date you requested the EMA Licensing Branch will suggest alternate dates.

  • The EMA Licensing Branch must receive all required documentation (if applicable) from you as well as confirmation of any resources being provided (e.g., rooms, equipment and patients) at least three weeks prior to the start date of the special examination session.

Important Information

  • Candidates cannot take their remedial practical evaluation on the same day as their initial evaluation. However, if a class tutor is present during the session to tutor unsuccessful students, an extra evaluation day can be scheduled at the end of the exam session for remedial exams.
