EMAs Working in British Columbia
There are various types of private and public emergency medical assistants’ employers in British Columbia. The largest public employer is the British Columbia Ambulance Service. Other employers are considered ‘industry’ employers and include but are not limited to: ambulance transfer fleets, ski resorts, fire departments, health authorities, mining or forestry camps, sawmills, and education institutions.
The Emergency and Health Services Act requires EMAs working in British Columbia to be licensed by the EMAs Licensing Branch.
If you work in industry as an EMA, you will need to hold an EMA licence and be registered with WorkSafe BC which oversees industrial work safety in British Columbia.
