Training and Exercise Program

This project has been undertaken by the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC), under the direction of the Ministry of Health Services (MoHS). The JIBC develops courses, executive orientations, and provides exercise design and facilitation for the BC Health Sector.

The Health Emergency Management Council (HEMC) of BC has identified training and exercising as a top priority to ensure the operational readiness of their organizations. This is in line with the 2005 Health Emergency Management Audit, which recommended the development of a consistent health sector training and exercise plan.  The plan is to ensure that all personnel who may be involved in emergency activities are trained in the implementation of the Emergency Response Plan and the British Columbia Emergency Response Management System (BCERMS) in their expected assignment levels or job functions.

A key outcome of this initiative is to ensure that training and exercise programs are coordinated and integrated within all Health Authorities, the BC Ambulance Service and other health emergency management agencies.
