Board of Hearing Aid Dealers and ConsultantsThe Board of Hearing Aid Dealers and Consultants is the regulatory body established for the health profession of hearing aid dispensing. The Board is established under the Hearing Aid Act and operates in accordance with the Hearing Aid Regulation. OUT OF PROVINCE APPLICATIONS (TILMA / AIT)Out of Province Applications Process for TILMA\AIT Introduction - Labour Mobility for Hearing Aid Dealers and Consultants “Labour mobility” means that every worker certified for an occupation by a regulatory authority in any province of Canada shall, upon application, be certified by another province in Canada with no further assessment, training or experience requirements. Effective April 1, 2009, and consistent with the terms of the Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT) and the British Columbia/Alberta Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA), the BC Board of Hearing Aid Dealers and Consultants (Board) will certify hearing aid dealers and consultants who are currently certified in another jurisdiction in Canada, in accordance with the provisions of these Agreements. It is important to note that registration in BC is required. Registration requirements for previously certified applicants from other jurisdictions are identified in the “Out of Province Applicant Process”. section of this website The Board will continue to be responsible for maintaining and monitoring the requirements that are in place through provincial legislation and regulation for hearing aid dealers and consultants. Transition of Hearing Aid Dispensing to the Health Professions Act Repeal of the Hearing Aid Act is provided for in the Health Planning Statutes Amendment Act, 2002. The profession will become regulated under the Health Professions Act along with audiology and speech-language pathology, within a single regulatory college. On December 11, 2008, the government announced that, effective April 1, 2010, the repeal of the Hearing Aid Act will be brought into force and the profession of hearing instrument dispensing (as it will now be known) will be regulated by the new College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia. The Board of Hearing Aid Dealers and Consultants will continue to regulate the profession until April 1, 2010.
