Legislation

  • On November 7, 2009 the Ambulance Services Collective Agreement Act (Bill 21) received Royal Assent.
  • On November 2, 2009, the Health Statutes (Residents' Bill of Rights) Amendment Act (Bill 17) passed Third Reading. It adds a Bill of Rights for those in Residential Care as a schedule to the Community Care and Assisted Living Act.
  • On October 29, 2009, the Miscellaneous Statutes Amendment Act, 2009 (Bill 13) received Royal Assent. It contains minor amendments to the Medicare Protection Act.
  • On October 29, 2009, the Budget Measures Implementation Act, 2009 (Bill 2) received Royal Assent. It contains minor amendments to the Continuing Care Act and the Hospital Insurance Act.

Professional Regulation

  • On October 30, 2009, an amendment to the Nurses (Registered) and Nurse Practitioners Regulation came into force that changes the repeal date of section 10 (transitional re: certified practices) from October 31, 2009 to March 31, 2010.
  • On October 26, 2009, an amendment to the Nurses (Registered) and Nurse Practitioners Regulation came into force that authorizes registered nurses to compound, dispense and administer Schedule I drugs for the purpose of treating symptoms of influenza-like-illness, without an order from a medical practitioner or other prescribing health professional.
  • On October 22, 2009, the Miscellaneous Statutes Amendment Act, 2009 (Bill 13) passed Third Reading. It contains minor amendments to the Health Professions Act.
  • On October 20, 2009, the Labour Mobility Act (Bill 11) passed Third Reading. It contains consequential amendments to the Health Professions Act and the Podiatrists Act.
  • On October 16, 2009, the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals gave notice of proposed bylaws for the College.
  • On October 9, 2009, amendments to the Pharmacists Regulation came into force that expand pharmacists' scope of practice to include administering vaccinations by intradermal, intramuscular or subcutaneous injection.
