Medical Travel Assistance Programs for Patients


Two programs are available to eligible BC residents who are required to travel outside their home community to obtain non-emergency, physician-referred specialist medical care.

Ministry of Health Travel Assistance Program (TAP)

Travel assistance benefits under this program depend on the participation of transportation partners who provide fare discounts to patients presenting an approved TAP confirmation form.

Health Connections Program

Health Connections is a regional travel assistance program implemented by four Health Authorities funded by the Ministry of Health. This program provides transportation options to help defray costs for rural residents who must travel to obtain non-emergency medical care away from home.

Hotels Offering Discounted Accommodation

A number of hotels in BC provide discounted accommodation rates for individuals and families who must stay way from home overnight to obtain medical care. Discounted room rates are subject to availability and at the option of a property. Call listed property to confirm rate and availability. Inquire about proof of medical necessity which may be required.

Hope Air is the national charity that helps arrange free air transportation for Canadians who are in financial need and require non-emergency care outside their home communities.
