The Nursing DirectorateNursing StrategiesIn August 2001, the Honourable Sindi Hawkins announced the first Nursing Strategy. It included initiatives funded by the Ministry of Health Services as well as those funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education. As of May 2008, the government’s total commitment to nursing strategies had grown to $189 Million. The Nursing Strategies focus on recruitment, retention and education, and apply to nurses across the three regulated nursing professions: Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). These initiatives are consistent with the recommendations of the Canadian Nursing Advisory Committee (CNAC) Report (2002) and were developed with input from nurses and other key stakeholders.
