Public Health in B.C.
How is the Public Health System Organized in British Columbia?
Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health supports and funds the activities of all regional health authorities, including all public health programs and services in British Columbia.
The mission of the Ministry of Health is “to guide and enhance the province’s health services in order to ensure British Columbians are supported in their efforts to maintain and improve their health.”
The Ministry was created to ensure British Columbia’s healthcare system is well-planned and well managed, accountable to the residents of B.C., meets the health needs of the population, and promotes efficiency in appropriate allocation of healthcare resources.
The Ministry of Health also plays an integral role in giving health promotion and prevention activities a higher priority, both as a means of improving the health and wellness of British Columbians, and as a way of ensuring a more sustainable healthcare system for the future.
