    The Provincial Health Officer’s Special Report: Prevention of Falls and Injuries Among the Elderly report highlights the impact of falls and injuries on elderly individuals, their families, and society and presents factors related to the risk of falling and evidence-based strategies to prevent falls and injuries.
  • WHO Global Report on Falls Prevention in Older Age (2007)
    The Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport and the Public Health Agency of Canada hosted a World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Seniors’ Falls Prevention Meeting in Victoria in February 2007. This workshop brought experts and policy personnel together to: discuss falls and falls-injury data, research knowledge, and practice evidence from an international perspective; highlight significant data and knowledge gaps; and develop practical recommendations to countries to improve information and action to reduce falls and injuries from falls. The WHO Global Report on Falls Prevention in Older Age was produced as a result of the workshop.

  • Falls & Related Injuries among Older Canadians: Fall-related Hospitalizations & Prevention Initiatives (2010)
    This new report, prepared for the Division of Aging and Seniors, Public Health Agency of Canada, is an analysis of the 2008/2009 Canadian hospitalization data for fall-related injuries among persons aged 65 years and older . The analysis is followed by the results of a scan of fall prevention programs currently operating across Canada. The appendices to this document include a list of definitions of terms, the survey tool used in the scan of programs, and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) epidemiological data.
  • The Evolution of Seniors’ Falls Prevention in British Columbia (2006) (PDF 1.4M)
    The Evolution of Seniors’ Falls Prevention in British Columbia report contains recent BC epidemiological data to illustrate the changes over time for mortality and hospitalizations as a result of seniors falling. It showcases the historical milestones for policy, research and practice that have contributed to BC moving to achieve a vision of reducing the burden and impact of falls and fall-related injury among seniors.
