School Resources For Tobacco-Free Schools

On March 29, 2007, the legislature passed a number of changes to the Tobacco Sales Act. This new legislation (renamed the Tobacco Control Act) included a ban on tobacco use in schools and on school grounds, by students, staff and visitors.  This ban extends to school property at all times, regardless of whether or not school is in session.

Sec 2.2 of the Tobacco Control Act requires that school boards, superintendents and principals take reasonable care and exercise due diligence to prevent contravention of the new laws.  To assist school boards, superintendents and principals in meeting their obligations under this Act, resource material is being developed and will be provided on this site as it becomes available.   Use of these resources is optional, and at the discretion of the school district and school.
