Cardiac SurgeryHalf of all heart or cardiac surgery in B.C. is done on an emergency basis and without delay. According to the Median Wait Time, all the people who have had their surgery in the past three months, half waited less than the median wait time.
B.C. provides one of the highest rates of both cardiac surgery and coronary angioplasty in Canada, and B.C. programs offer quality care with the latest technological advances in clinical-care delivery. Services are coordinated through Cardiac Services BC, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority. Open heart surgery is provided in four centres across the province: Vancouver General Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital, and the Royal Jubilee Hospital. A fifth centre is being planned at Kelowna Regional Hospital and is slated to open in 2012.
